Distance Coaching

Many thanks for your interest in Distance Coaching. It is a very much a personal approach to coaching, so my aim is to know what your goals are, your time constraints, current activities, other commitments… identify training gaps and design your training to be effective as well as practical. This means a face to face or Skype conversation and on-going weekly communication thereafter.

If you don’t have a power meter, then you would need access to one every 6 weeks only for reassessment, for example, a Wattbike or indoor trainer. I would need to have or asses your threshold power, after which I will send you a session that sets a baseline for your heart rate response across all your zones. This assessment would be repeated every 6-weeks to check whether heart rate is lower across all or only some of your zones. With this data, the direction of your training can be adapted based on how you respond physiologically.

Keeping to the training

I will send you a link to my coach account from where I will populate your training week calendar. Your uploads would be recorded here too. At a glance I can see whether you are on track, i.e, red means session not done, yellow means partially done, green means completed in full. I will monitor every week, plus this software is also a convenient place for us both to communicate on sessions and the plan in general.

Goal events and tapering

Your calendar will have your ‘A’ races mapped out and tapering to events will also be planned. You would just need to send me a list of of your planned races and then prioritise which ones are really important to you. I will make suggestions on priorities if there are too many ‘A’ races.

Choose your trainer software

If you have an indoor trainer, then you can subscribe to several different software options. Both the above sync with your calendar and the sessions I design will work with this software, making your training productive and entertaining.

If you have a smart trainer, then the sessions will be recognised as ERG files and your trainer will auto adjust to the correct intensity for each of your intervals.

The cost for training is R650/mth, including access to my TrainingPeaks coach account where your calendar would sit. This excludes any additional software subs you would pay, for example for Zwift.
